The Principal’s Message
Farewell & Thank you
At this time I would like to thank and acknowledge some of our valued staff members who are leaving us next year. Some are taking periods of leave, others are to head off for some new adventures.
Jenna Hoffman leaves us to have her baby. We wish Jenna all the best for her year and we can’t wait to meet her little one in the New Year.
Maria Maxwell leaves us to take up a position at Redbank Plains State School. We have appreciated Maria’s passion and commitment to her students and wish her all the best in her new role.
Carla De Beus leaves us to take up a position at Hercules Road State School. We will miss Carla’s deep knowledge of how to support students with additional needs but wish her all the best in her new role.
Teresa Huillet leaves us to enjoy an extremely well deserved break. We will miss Teresa’s enthusiasm for teaching her students art and her friendly nature. We hope she has time to come and visit us next year.
Madeline Day leaves us to take up a position at a local special school. We have appreciated Madeline’s commitment to the students she has worked with and the advice she has provided to teachers, teacher aides and the leadership team to support all of the students at our school.
Bradley Viterale is leaving us to take up a music position between 2 schools. Brad has made a significant contribution to music at our school and has such a passion for sharing his love of music with our students.
Returning to school after 6 February 2020?
The 6th of February, 2020 is an extremely important day in the life of our school as this is the day that the government lets us know how many teachers we can have and how much money they will give us to support the learning of all of the students at Moreton Downs State School.
We also understand that family holidays can sometimes run into the beginning of the next school year and that some students may be returning to us after the 6th of February. So that we are able to ‘count’ your child/ren in our numbers and make sure we are getting the right amount of staff and money for our school, there is a form we ask you to complete. Please see our lovely office ladies if you are returning to Moreton Downs State School next year and will be returning after the 6th of February.
Thank you.
Classes for 2020
Moreton Downs State School has a procedure in place for allocating students into classes each year. The procedure ensures that the professional judgement of the school is informed by input from parents and carers and that all available information is applied to the placement process. The process of placing students in classes can be sensitive however, please be assured that the interests of all students are paramount to the decisions taken by the school.
How you can help…..
- Please advise the school if you are not returning to Moreton Downs in 2020.
- If you have any additional information to provide in regard to your child’s class placement, please see our lovely office ladies for information about how you can submit this information.
- If you have or know of any prep age students for 2020 who have not yet enrolled, please encourage them to do so.
¬Safe and Happy Holiday
Last but not least I wanted to thank the Moreton Downs community for welcoming me so warmly into your school. I am so looking forward to working with you in the years ahead. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

HIVE Program NEWS
On Wednedsay 27th November, the HIVE hosted our end of term afternoon tea. It was a lovely chance to chat over a cuppa and discuss how inclusive support works at Moreton Downs. Staff find it a pleasure to discuss, in a social way, the deeper information regarding students valuable learning.
The HIVE will continue to host afternoon teas Wednesday Week 8 in 2020.
HIVE staff are now working on handover of support for next year. Students will meet their new teacher next week Tuesday 2:00. HIVE staff will support this meeting and those with identified special needs will receive a transition book by the last day of school. Transition books contain a photo of the 2020 class teacher, classroom, play area options and eating area. Pre-prep students receive theirs by mail. Further handover of support needs will occur in meetings, conversations and before Term 1 commencing. HIVE support staff are still being finalised for next year. We are saying farewell to Carla De Beus, who is transferring to Hercules Road State School after a year and a half with us. We are also farewelling our Guidance Officer, Madeleine Day and welcome new Guidance Officer Jenny Neal. We welcome Jenny and wish Carla and Madeleine all the best on their professional journeys.
Around The Classes
Christmas came early in Prep with the 'Santa Around the World' show on Friday, 29th November.
Prep students enjoyed the interactive show where they got to dress up in costumes provided and sing/dance/play instruments while visiting different countries around the world, in search of Santa Claus. Thank you to the parents who came along to watch - what a wonderful way to introduce the celebration of Christmas and learn about other cultures/traditions through music and dance.
