P-2 Hopping Into the Easter Break!
As the term comes to a close, excitement is in the air as our students get ready to hop into a well-deserved Easter break! It has been a fantastic term filled with learning, achievements, and wonderful moments that have strengthened our school community.

Throughout the past few months, we have focused on developing positive relationships, with highlights including parent/caregiver interviews, where valuable conversations helped foster strong connections between home and school. Our students have also enjoyed a range of engaging experiences, from Year 2-4 swimming lessons, building confidence in the water, to our Year 2 students exploring creativity and problem-solving through Scratch Jnr ICT.

We celebrated together with vibrant whole school parades, the much-anticipated P-2 Easter Hat Parade, and a meaningful Harmony Day, where we came together to embrace and appreciate the rich cultural diversity within our school. Through activities, performances, and shared experiences, students reinforced the message that everyone belongs, highlighting the values of inclusion, respect, and unity in our community.

A heart-warming moment of the term was our community picnic, where families and friends gathered to enjoy a wonderful day of connection, laughter, and fun. It was fantastic to see our school community come together, strengthening relationships in a relaxed and welcoming setting. Our youngest learners and their families have also been enjoying becoming part of our school through playgroup, building connections and familiarity in a warm and engaging environment.
As we head into the Easter break, we want to extend our gratitude to our students, staff, and families for their ongoing enthusiasm and support. Wishing everyone a joyful, safe, and relaxing holiday filled with sunshine, laughter, and plenty of Easter treats!
We look forward to seeing everyone back next term, refreshed and ready for more learning and adventures.

Happy Easter!

Harmony Week
In Week 8, our school community came together to celebrate Harmony Week, embracing the rich cultural diversity that makes our school so special. Throughout the week, students from all year levels participated in a variety of activities that encouraged inclusion, respect, and understanding of different cultures.
From engaging classroom discussions to hands-on activities, each year level had a chance to explore and appreciate the diverse backgrounds that make up our school. A special highlight of the week was Friday’s Harmony Dress Day, where students proudly showcased their traditional dress or wore orange—the official colour of Harmony Week, symbolizing unity and respect.
At MDSS, we celebrate the message of ‘Everyone Belongs’, and this week was a beautiful reminder of the strength in our diversity.

Term 1 Free Dress Day - Crazy Locks and Socks!
Students can come dressed to school in any casual clothes on Friday. It is a gold coin donation and the funds will go to the Yr 6 Graduation Dinner and Dance. This will ensure that our Year 6 students have a wonderful graduation experience.
Swimming
Swimming has been a highlight this week for the year 2,3 and 4s. They had a great time, even with rain! Learning to swim is a vital skill, especially for children living in Australia. Thank you to the parents for supporting this essential program.
Sport
The postponement of the Cross-Country means that is it now on April 29th. This gives students time in the holidays to be out running and training. A great reason to get student off the screens and out moving.
In year 3, students are finalising the drafts of their narratives about Tashi. They are so proud of their work and I am sure they enjoyed sharing their stories with you at Open Classrooms

The year 4 students had a wonderful time watching The Twits performance at the incursion in Week 8. The helped them build an understanding of the characters to support them to create engaging narratives about the twits. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing rain, we have not been able to go ahead with the Creek Exploration excursion.

For the majority of our Yr 5 and 6 student, interschool sport finally went ahead in Week 8. It was great to get in one session in before the rain in week 9. I had wonderful feedback about the respect and sportsmanship that the MDSS showed at all the sports. Fingers crossed for a dry April so that students can continue to go. The students who stay back at this time certainly don’t miss out. They have a great time playing games and getting the opportunity to be part of team activities.
ANZAC Day Events
ANZAC Day is a special day for all Australians. This year, we are acknowledging and commemorating ANZAC Day with a whole school ceremony on the 24th April at 9:15am. All families are invited.
All MDSS students, staff and families are also invited to join the Leadership Team and Student Leaders for the Deception Bay RSL ANZAC Service on 25th April. The service will commence with a march from the Deception Bay Library at 5:40am and proceed to the ANZAC Memorial at the Community Hall where the service will take place at 6:00am. Students are required to wear their school uniform.
We hope you are able to join us at some of these events.
