Principal’s message
Messages From Mrs Newlands Deputy Principal – Yrs 3-6
What a wonderful place MDSS is to connect, grow, and learn. I am so proud of how quickly students have settled back into their learning. From day one, students have been well into their units of learning, growing their knowledge and skills.
Community Picnic
Our community picnic is on next Thursday 30th October. This term we have decided that permission notes will not be needed, as parents and carers will be collecting students from the class at 2:15pm and signing them out.
We look forward to coming together as a community for an afternoon of connection, reading stories together and enjoying each other’s company.
Interschool Sport
Interschool sport has been a highlight over the past two Fridays. All the students showing pride in our school by being respectful and fair players. It’s been great to see the teamwork shown from all the players.

Yr 3
Students are loving listening and reading the story Charlotte’s Web. This is a classic book with a beautiful story of friendship and hope. Students will be getting the chance to be authors to add to the story of Charlotte’s Web. I am sure they will love reading this to you at the open classrooms at the end of term.
It’s all about addition and subtraction in Math! It was great to see 3C really thinking hard to solve some complex math algorithms. Whiteboards are a great way to do this as students can easily change errors and teachers can see how all students are going.

Year 5
For the first time in a few years, students in year 5 are learning all about poetry. Poetry is an engaging literary text to share ideas, tell stories or just be for fun!
I look forward to working through the next steps of the 2026 Leadership Process. It was great to see so many Leadership Passports completed. In the coming weeks students will receive a letter to let them know if they have been shortlisted for a Leadership position. Following this, students will have an interview with Mr Winney and myself, and those going for School Captain will complete a speech in front of their peers.

Year 6
Highschool is definitely the word on the street in Year 6. The staff from DBSHS came on Friday to talk to the cohort all about Yr 7. It was great to hear so many relevant questions from students. Over the next few months, students will be engaging in tasks to support them in high school such as having dates for assessment drafts and making their way to specialists’ lessons (with teachers watching from afar). This way, we can build their independence skills in a supportive, familiar environment.

Key Dates for Year 6’s

Welcome Back to Term 4!
Welcome back to what promises to be a fantastic and fulfilling Term 4!
It’s been wonderful to see our students return with big smiles and stories from their holiday adventures. From beach trips to quiet days at home, it’s clear that students have come back refreshed and ready to learn. The classrooms are buzzing with excitement, and we’re looking forward to a term filled with great learning, new experiences, and strong community spirit.
Prep and Year 1 Swimming Block – 27 to 31 October
Our Prep and Year 1 students will dive into their annual swimming block from Monday 27 October to Friday 31 October. This week-long program supports water confidence and essential swimming skills in a fun, safe environment. We can’t wait to see all the splishing and splashing!
Year 4 to 6 Interschool Sport – Every Friday Until 31 October
Our Year 4 to 6 students are taking part in interschool sport every Friday from 10 October to 31 October, competing in Soccer, Oztag, Volleyball, and Newcombe. These events promote physical activity, teamwork, and school pride. It's always exciting to see students giving their best, learning new skills, and representing our school with enthusiasm and respect.
Year 5 and 6: Moreton Bay Video Game Challenge – 5 November
Our Year 5 and 6 ICT students are hard at work preparing for the Moreton Bay Video Game Challenge on Tuesday 5 November. This exciting event allows students to showcase their creativity and coding skills by developing original video games. We’re so proud of their efforts and look forward to seeing their final projects!

Day for Daniel – Friday 31 October
Day for Daniel is Australia’s largest child safety awareness event, held annually on the last Friday of October. This day honours Daniel Morcombe and promotes important safety messages for children and families. At school, we will be engaging students in age-appropriate discussions about personal safety, and we encourage families to continue these vital conversations at home. Students are encouraged to wear red for the day.

Also, a huge congratulation to our students on their fantastic Peninsula Music Festival performance on Tuesday 14th October. All students played amazingly, and their behaviour was exemplary throughout the day.

School is always an exciting place to be, and you never know who might drop in to visit. Two curlew proud parents and their two new baby chicks were the highlight for these inquisitive students.
We’re excited for a term full of learning, growth, and fun, with a strong focus on both physical and mental wellbeing.
Let’s make Term 4 a great finish to the year!
Messages from A/Deputy Principal Ms Melissa Jones
Prep
Our Prep students have come back to Term 4 ready to learn with keen enthusiasm. We’ve seen such growth from our littlest learners in the school as they approach their final term of 2025. Swimming is coming up soon for our Prep classes, where students will get a whole week of swimming lessons, they are all looking forward to this exciting event.
In English we are looking at a poetry unit where classes are working on reading and retelling rhyming stories. Students are enjoying reading books like Macca the Alpaca and Oi! Frog!

Year 2
In Year 2 this term we’ve started off with excitement for the term and the new learning. We are reading the adventure story Tashi and enjoying the stories about the exciting adventures about dragons and magic!
We’re excited to have had our Deadly Choices program start this term for our First Nations students in Year 2 and in Year 4. On Tuesday we welcomed Mana from Deadly Choices to our school to work with our Year 2 students on the Junior Healthy Choices program.
